Assignment #3 Framing
Framing is a unique concept in digital photography. In picture #1 I was strolling the Burlington Bike and this bike bridge has always been my favorite bridge to ride across. Not sure of the framing works in this photo but there are a series of lines that really captured my attention.
Photo # 2
I was in Maine visiting my in-laws and we took a daytrip to Boothbay Harbor. The minute we pulled into the restaurant, this view came into my sight of vision. The tree's act as a frame to the water and boats.
Photo #3
Another photo from Boothbay. This footbridge that is crossed by thousands of people during the vacation months struck me. The history that is in the bridge crossed by people all over the world.
Photo #4
This photo is one of my favorites. As I walked by it the pod was what struck me. I immediately started to take pictures of the pod then realized that there was a natural frame around it from a distance. The straightness of the trucks, the shape of the pod, and the overhang from the branches created the perfect frame.
Photo #5
This last photo was an "on a whim" photo. The train had just passed and as I watched it go by, I looked at all the elements and thought that it was a cool framed picture in itself. The iron, the concrete and the shapes all created a neat frame to traveled road beneath.

Assignment #2 Rules of Thirds
Sadly I was so focused on the rules of thirds assignment that I didn't take a picture of the subject centered. I know that when I was looking at the subject centered that my eyes were wandering all over the wall, picking out different elements while not really focusing on the subject.

Week 5
Assignment #1
Composition and Aesthetics
I seemed to struggle a bit with this assignment. I was too focused on trying to find something instead of just letting it happen. After doing extensive research and reading what other people found I still stressed out about it. Here is the best of what I could do as I created a scene for these shots.

Assignment 4
Set Two
I wanted to go with a rather difficult subject to photograph. The goal was to challenge myself and learn to use my camera and the controls to its fullest potential. In the first two photos I chose to take them as the sun was just setting over the Adirondacks. I adjusted the WB controls on the camera to cloudy and I also played around with the EV setting so that I could achieve the goal of getting the exact shot I wanted.
Set Two
I wanted to go with a rather difficult subject to photograph.
The next shot was when the sun had set and the night had begun to fall. There was still a pinkish color highlighting the mountains. The way the flame reacted with the camera was a challenge. I had to adjust the EV to lighten the tiki torch and played around with the flash. I used the SL flash so that I could get a clearer picture.
The final shot was taken in the morning hours. (at about 6:00am) The sky was overcast so I had to adjust the WB setting to cloudy, I also adjusted the EV so that I could get a clear picture of the torch but not have it become over exposed.
This final one was when I was taking a series of the photos during the night. As I was locked into view I had to fight off the mosquitos and then hit the shutter button and this happened:
The light choices that I went with were the natural lighting from the sun, the flame from the tiki torch, and the flash from the camera. I had the outside light on while I was photographing in the later part of the evening but it really didn't effect the way the photo's came out.

Perfect ending to a perfect day
Arnold Bay, Panton VT 6/4/2015
I took a series of pictures at this beautiful spot. Trying to decide what pictures to share is probably one of the most difficult tasks of this class so far. The saying, "you are your own worst critic" has really defined this activity. You will notice on my Flickr page I posted photos of stones being skipped by someone out enjoying the evening. See how there were many similarities in the series of pictures I posted there, I wanted a different angle of shots showing more of the natural beauty that the bay has to offer.
I chose two very similar pictures taken a different positions on the bay. While exploring many of the features that my camera has, I chose to stay close to the automatic settings but slightly adjusting the WB (white balance) and the EV which adjusts the light. Seeing how the sun was setting over the mountains, there was glare on that water which caused the camera to take darker pictures.
The picture above and below show the depth of the natural materials that are at the location. While the picture above was taken when I first arrived, the picture below was taken before I left the bay. I then had to adjust the EV on the picture below to get a good representation of all the textures.
Here are the rest of the pictures that I took during the evening.
As you can tell, I really found this tree fascinating. The texture really blended with the crumbling slate like ledge as well as the smooth rocks that lined the beach.
