Set Two
I wanted to go with a rather difficult subject to photograph. The goal was to challenge myself and learn to use my camera and the controls to its fullest potential. In the first two photos I chose to take them as the sun was just setting over the Adirondacks. I adjusted the WB controls on the camera to cloudy and I also played around with the EV setting so that I could achieve the goal of getting the exact shot I wanted.
The next shot was when the sun had set and the night had begun to fall. There was still a pinkish color highlighting the mountains. The way the flame reacted with the camera was a challenge. I had to adjust the EV to lighten the tiki torch and played around with the flash. I used the SL flash so that I could get a clearer picture.
The final shot was taken in the morning hours. (at about 6:00am) The sky was overcast so I had to adjust the WB setting to cloudy, I also adjusted the EV so that I could get a clear picture of the torch but not have it become over exposed.
This final one was when I was taking a series of the photos during the night. As I was locked into view I had to fight off the mosquitos and then hit the shutter button and this happened:
The light choices that I went with were the natural lighting from the sun, the flame from the tiki torch, and the flash from the camera. I had the outside light on while I was photographing in the later part of the evening but it really didn't effect the way the photo's came out.
I love the last photo, and the bug photo bomb! I like the twilight photo as well. Your adjustments made it look fantastic. I love the ring around the flame.
ReplyDeleteYou can really see the effect of the different types of light very well in this series. In this assignment about different lighting, great choice to take a picture OF light (the burning wick.) My two personal favorite are the second (due to the cool trail of smoke dribbled across the horizon) and the third (I love the circular glare caused by the light.)
ReplyDeleteThese are really some beautiful shots. It can be really hard capturing sunsets and also a flash can make things seem harsh and showed, but that is not the case with these! Nice job
ReplyDeleteThese are some really cool shots. I tried at one point to take a picture of a candle flame; it's much harder to make it look good than I originally thought! Very nice!
