Arnold Bay, Panton VT 6/4/2015
I took a series of pictures at this beautiful spot. Trying to decide what pictures to share is probably one of the most difficult tasks of this class so far. The saying, "you are your own worst critic" has really defined this activity. You will notice on my Flickr page I posted photos of stones being skipped by someone out enjoying the evening. See how there were many similarities in the series of pictures I posted there, I wanted a different angle of shots showing more of the natural beauty that the bay has to offer.
I chose two very similar pictures taken a different positions on the bay. While exploring many of the features that my camera has, I chose to stay close to the automatic settings but slightly adjusting the WB (white balance) and the EV which adjusts the light. Seeing how the sun was setting over the mountains, there was glare on that water which caused the camera to take darker pictures.
The picture above and below show the depth of the natural materials that are at the location. While the picture above was taken when I first arrived, the picture below was taken before I left the bay. I then had to adjust the EV on the picture below to get a good representation of all the textures.
Here are the rest of the pictures that I took during the evening.
As you can tell, I really found this tree fascinating. The texture really blended with the crumbling slate like ledge as well as the smooth rocks that lined the beach.

I really like the first black-and-white picture in the series it's beautiful and it captures the rock the water in the tree really nicely. Really nice work! Is that from editing on the computer or do you have a setting on your camera?
ReplyDeleteHey, I really like the placement of the three in the third picture down, where it is offset to the right and the lake is too the left. The tree is still the focal point of the picture, although it is more subtle and allows the landscape to be part of the picture. Nice job :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy these edits, the texture of the materials working together gives them a classic feel. Almost stoic, wood, rock, water. Basic elements no fancy layers to hide under just pure...raw. I love em!
ReplyDeleteHey! I love these, particularly the closer shots of the bough of the tree--it's super cool, and you see completely different backgrounds in each (the beach and rocks in one and the water in the other.) As Amanda said, I like that the edits that you did added to rather than detracted from the pure natural feel of the photos.
ReplyDeleteI love the third picture. With the background being out of focus, you really pay attention to the texture of the water and the trees in the background bring a wonderful splash of color.
